Shana received the University of Central Florida's College of Sciences Recognizing Outstanding Instruction Award in 2024. This award acknowledges major course innovations and transformations to improve student success and embrace learning outcomes.
Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award Winner
Shana was the sole winner of the University of Central Florida's College of Sciences Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award in 2023, which recognizes outstanding graduate-level teaching. She was also nominated for the university-wide award.
Teaching Incentive Program Award Winner
Shana was one of only 16 faculty members from the University of Central Florida's College of Sciences to receive a Teaching Incentive Program (TIP) Award in 2022. This award recognizes teaching productivity and excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education.
Affordable Instructional Materials Initiative Recognized Faculty
Shana has been recognized multiple times by the University of Central Florida's Affordable Instructional Materials (AIM) Initiative for achievements in reducing course material costs to create a more accessible and equitable educational experience.
Women's History Month Honoree
Shana was one of 31 women faculty members honored at the University of Central Florida during March 2020 for Women’s History Month. Each honoree was nominated by peers and colleagues for her impact on campus and in the community.
AAA Photo Contest Winner
Shana was one of 12 anthropologists to win the 2018 American Anthropological Association (AAA) Annual Photo Contest. Her photograph taken during fieldwork in Baja California, Mexico, was selected for the AAA's 2019 calendar.
